Bat Mitzvah Photography in San Jose
Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are a rite of passage in the Jewish faith. For many reasons, Bat Mitzvah Photography is one of the funnest events I get the opportunity to photograph. The ceremonial parts of the day are great; and it is just cool to see and be a part of such an important day in the lives of everyone involved.
Family Portraits
There are many parts of the day to consider when photographing a Bat Mitzvah. Family Portraits are one of the most important aspects to photograph. If there are a lot of friends and family that would like to participate in family portraits, it is important to make a list of all of the groupings. There is a lot going on and it is easy to forget some of the groups you may want photographed.
Pre Ceremony Candid Moments
One of the neatest things about Bat Mitzvah photography is that you get a small glimpse into the lives of the people you are photographing. I learned that Lia is originally from the Boulder Colorado area – and although it was a little chilly on the day of her Bat Mitzvah, it is nothing like winters in Colorado. I spent a brief part of my life living on the East Coast and so I can relate to “cold” (30 degrees or below) and “California Cold,” (60 degrees or below)!
Ceremony
One of the things you have to get used to, when photographing a Bat Mitzvah, is that photography is secondary to the ceremony. Some temples will not allow photography at all – but most will let you take pictures from the very back of the temple. This was the case with Lia’s Bat Mitzvah. For the ceremony, I had a three camera set up – where two cameras were set up and triggered every time I took a picture with my main camera. By doing this, I was able to capture three different angles even though I was only positioned in the back 😉
