I LOVE chatting and getting to know all of my clients. It helps me understand who they are and what is important to them. Keeping a back-and-forth dialogue with clients, during a session, is something that helps them feel comfortable. And it makes the session flow and feel like the images are secondary. During the session, we are having a good time, chatting, and you are enjoying time spent with your family 🙂
Can I See The Images?
There are, however, a few questions that I cringe at – when asked by my clients 🙂 One of them is, can “I take a look at some of the images?” This might not bother other Photographers, but it is uncomfortable for me. The reason being is simple: rarely do images, viewed in camera, look close to what they will look like as the finished product. Depending on the lighting, I may under expose the image in camera. The white balance that the camera records will be off; and there are a lot of images that are taken and not delivered that you do not want ANYONE to see!
I’m Not Good at Taking Pictures
This is one of the phrases that I REALLY do not like hearing 🙂 It may be true: you have taken some bad pictures in the past. I think EVERYONE has, at one time or the other. The one thing you cannot do is psych yourself out before any images have been taken. If you think you take bad pictures, chances are you are going to psych yourself into take more bad pictures!
In defense of the whole bad at taking pictures phobia, it is VERY uncomfortable to have a giant camera shoved in your face. You don’t know what the images look like, and that “one-two-three CHEESE!,” countdown is super awkward. Don’t worry – I try not to ever do this. I try to capture fun, candid moments of you just being yourself. I like images that feel natural and unposed. The best images come when you are laughing, having fun, and being playful. Don’t worry, the below image is a stock image and is not one of my clients! I’ll make sure to disregard any unflattering pictures 🙂
Can I Have The RAW Images?
No 😉 99.99% of the professional Photographers that I know just do not deliver unedited or RAW images. They do not want you editing their images because the images they deliver reflects a Photographer’s style and brand. Just like if you go to a restaurant, they are not going to give you the raw ingredients of your favorite dish for you to take home and try to cook. It’s pretty much the same with unedited or RAW images. Here is a great YouTube video on the subject.
