On Campus Graduation Portrait Ideas – San Jose State
Like any other session, graduation portraits can be taken at a park, a beach, etc. But perhaps the best place for portraits is ALWAYS going to be on campus. Here are some on campus graduation portrait ideas from a session at San Jose State.
Signs With The School Name
Maybe it is an obvious point, but you definitely want to get a few shots with the university’s name or some type of signage. Hashtags are pretty popular now and so the #SJSU hashtag with the WELCOME signage in the background was a good start to our session.
Historic Buildings
Most campuses have historic buildings that hold a lot of meaning for the university. More-and-more campuses are expanding and adding different buildings – so the original buildings have a lot of importance. At San Jose State, the Tower Hall is one of the most well known structures on campus.
Department Building
If there is a department building for the major that your client is graduating from, chances are it holds some sentimental value to them. Getting a couple of shots in front of their department building is also an important element.
Cap and Gown
For graduation portraits, you want to make sure to get a variety of images. Some with the full cap and gown. Some with just the cap and stole (the colorful thing that goes around your neck). And some with none of the graduation gown elements, etc.
Candid Photos and Different Groupings
To make the session fun, getting some candid shots is a great idea. A go-to pose I like to do for this are walking shots. If the client has family members with them, make sure to get plenty of shots of them with each family member.
