Maternity Photos at Shoreline Lake Park
Whether you are expecting your first child, or giving your first child a sibling, maternity photos are important! Weynab was expecting a baby girl and really wanted to capture fun and candid moments. She wanted to be able to look back on this time and remember when they were transitioning from a family of three to a family of four.
Evening is the Best Time For Outdoor Portraits
Without a doubt, the best time for outdoor maternity photos is going to be in the hour before the sun sets for the day. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, at this time the sun is at a height and angle that creates soft, flattering light. Secondly, the color of the sunlight at this time is very vibrant. It gives of golden light and is often referred to as “golden hour.”
Similar lighting is also available in the hour that the sun is rising. Most people do not want to wake up this early for photos! I’ve only had two sessions at this hour 🙂
When Working With Kids, Candid Photos Are Key
Working with kids can pose a challenge! The one thing that I have learned, over the years, is that you just have to let kids be kids. Getting kids playing and having fun is a no-fail way to capture great maternity or family photos. If their small enough, I like to have Dad give them a little toss in the air 🙂 This almost always gets a huge smile out of them. I wrote a similar blog post on this: Working with Kids.
Black and White For Emotions
Sometimes an image just looks better in black and white. By stripping the image of color, you focus in on the subject and are not distracted by anything else in the shot. Moments of laughter or silent moments where someone is gazing away from the camera make for great black and white images.
If you are expecting a child, I’d love to meet you and collaborate with you on capturing some fun maternity portraits. The best way to reach out to me is right through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
