Why I Prefer At Home Lifestyle Newborn Portraits
At home lifestyle newborn portraits should be fun, and simple. When you look at your lifestyle newborn portraits, I want you to remember being in your home – holding, kissing, and cuddling with your newborn baby. Not spending 6 hours getting the baby to stop crying so that you can pose them like a frog!
Over the years, I have come to find that most couples prefer lifestyle newborn portraits – over in-studio newborn portraits. No doubt, in-studio newborn portraits are REALLY cute! I see some of these sessions and am amazed at some of the poses they are able to get the babies in. This is just not my style…
We Will Still Use Props
Not to worry, we can still incorporate props and different outfits into the session 🙂 I do not provide props or outfits for the session; however, a great resource for outfits and props is Etsy. I typically split the session up and spend half of the time getting shots of just the baby. The rest of the time, I capture shots of you with your baby. Holding the baby. Kissing the baby. Laying on the bed next to the baby, etc.
Three Simple Poses
For lifestyle newborn portraits, I like to keep things as simple as possible. I’m less concerned with the “perfect pose” as I am with capturing simple, cute moments. I have three “go to,” poses that I use for your session. On the babies back. Laying the baby on their side. And on the babies tummy.
The best time for newborn portraits is in the first week after they are born. In the first week, the baby spends the majority of the day eating and sleeping. This makes it a little easier to pose the baby and keep them asleep for the images… of course, the scheduling of the session may also depend on how you are feeling! Some people will schedule their session up to one month after the baby has arrived.
If you are expecting a baby in the coming months and are interested in lifestyle newborn portraits, I would love to hear from you. The best way to reach out to me is through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
