When to Take Maternity Portraits – What to Consider

One of the frequently asked maternity questions I get is, “at what point in my pregnancy should I take maternity portraits. Here are my top three things to consider on when to take maternity portraits.

You’ll Be Most Comfortable Around 34-36 Weeks

One of the main things to consider, on when to take maternity portraits, is your comfort level. As you get closer to your due date, it will be harder-and-harder to pose for portraits. During the session, we will be walking, sitting, lying down and getting back up, etc. You will want to be as comfortable as possible. Around 34-36 weeks, you will be comfortable enough to pose for portraits 🙂

PRO TIP: If you plan on wearing high heels, bring an extra pair of shoes to walk around in.

At 34-36 Weeks Your Baby Bump Will Be Showing

Every woman shows a little different, but at 34-36 weeks this is usually a time when your baby bump is a good size. If you happen to be showing a little earlier, we can always schedule the session sooner.

Around 34-36 Weeks, We Can Reschedule If Something Comes Up

Just in case something comes up and the session needs to be rescheduled, 34-36 weeks is a good time frame to be able to reschedule. If it happens to rain on the day of the session, we do have a couple of other options. We can schedule the session at my studio. Or we could reschedule the session to a location that has outdoor coverings. For example, Stanford University has outdoor hallways that are covered from the rain.
