What To Wear For Maternity Portraits
Your maternity portraits can be as casual or as formal as you want them to be. Many of my clients wear jeans and a blouse; and some of my clients have also worn really elegant maternity dresses. It is your maternity portrait session and you can wear whatever you want 🙂 Here are my top four tips on planning what to wear for maternity portraits.Â
Wear Something Comfortable
My biggest tip on what to wear for maternity portraits is to wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in. If you’re not comfortable, it will most likely show in the images. If you plan on wearing heels, make sure to bring a second pair of shoes that you can walk from place-to-place in. Bringing a mirror and brush may also be helpful – especially if it is a windy day 😉
Try To Avoid Black or White
If your favorite outfit is a beautiful white or black gown, that you just have to wear, go for it! One thing to consider, when wearing black or white, is that it is difficult for the camera to pick up the shape of your baby bump. Â
Wear Something Form Fitting
Since we want to highlight your baby bump, it is important that we are able to see the shape of your tummy. Many retailers make dresses and shirts specifically for expecting moms – or you may already have something in your closet that will work. Whatever you choose to wear, you will want to make sure that we can see the shape of your bump.
Complimentary Colors
Last but not least, a great idea for your maternity portrait attire is to wear complimentary colors. There are several ways that you can accomplish this. One way is to have one person wear a certain color and another person wear a complimentary color. For example, the mommy to be can wear red and the other family members can wear green. You can also wear a certain color and accent that color with jewelry that is of a complimentary color… if the location that you are having the session has golden grass, wearing purple would be a great idea. If the location of your session has a lot of green grass and trees, wearing red would be another good suggestion 🙂
