Outdoor Family Portrait Session

Outdoor Family Portrait Session | Courtney & James

I believe that family portraits should be fun, candid, and feel unposed. This is especially the case when working with kids! Most children will not be able to look right at the camera and strike the perfect pose for pictures. Heck – most adults struggle with this 🙂 Getting children having fun and being silly is the best way to capture natural smiles. Here are some of the fun and candid images from Courtney’s outdoor family portrait session. As well as two tips for capturing the great family portraits with kids.

Bring Helpers to Grab The Little One’s Attention

Perhaps the funnest part of the session took place in the background. Courtney and James did a wonderful thing and brought Grandma and Grandpa along. They stood right over my should and grabbed the baby’s attention. They were singing, dancing, making funny sounds and this made my job much easier. I’m typically the person who is making funny sounds to try to capture the baby’s attention – so this was a welcomed relief! Too bad we were not able to take any pictures of Grandma and Grandpa dancing behind me 🙂 These would have been some of the best images of the session!

Prepare A Few Snacks To Keep Children Energized Throughout The Sesison

Another great tip that works well for children is to bring snacks! By giving them snacks in between poses, they will remain energized through the session 🙂 Little snacks that children can pop into their mouth work perfect. I would avoid anything that has coloring that can show up on your child’s tongue. For example, cheerio’s is a great snack to bring 😉
