Fun Outdoor Portraits In Los Gatos

Fun Outdoor Portraits In Los Gatos | Tracee

Family portraits should be something that are fun and enjoyable. Especially when it comes to working with kids, capturing candid and natural moments are my favorite types of images to take. At the end of the day, the majority of children will not stand there and pose and smile for the camera on their own. It has to be something that is brought out of them. Here are some fun outdoor portraits in Los Gatos of Tracee and her family. And three ways to prepare your children to have fun for their portrait session.

Schedule The Session Strategically

Perhaps the most important way to have a successful family portrait session is to schedule the session around your child’s schedule. If your child typically takes a nap at noon, for example, try to schedule the session around this time. Make sure that your child has had their nap and has enough time to wake up and be alert during the session. Of course, kids can be unpredictable – so this is not always possible. On the day of the session, they may miss their nap or be a little fussy but trying to plan the session when they are at their best is a good place to start.

Practice Getting Them to Smile

I can usually find at least one or two ways to get your child to smile. But you know your children WAY better than I do. The day before the session, a good tip is to practice some of the little things that get them to smile. Here are some ideas: tickling them, tossing them in the air, spinning them in a circle, nibbling at their ear, etc. Many kids also like being flipped upside down and bouncing up-and-down on mom or dad’s shoulders.

Do Something Fun Afterwards

I believe that family portraits are not just about the taking of the pictures. This should be just part of the fun. Spending time with your family, having a good time should be the priority of your family portrait session. I want the 30 to 60 minutes that we spend taking pictures to be memorable and fun. And the fun does not have to stop after the session ends. Plan on doing something fun afterwards. You can go to lunch or dinner. And some of the locations that I shoot at have playgrounds and other fun things to do right on location. Vasona Park and Hellyer Park, for example, have some of the coolest play areas in San Jose 😉
