10 Great Maternity Portrait Session Poses

10 Great Maternity Portrait Session Poses

The anticipation and excitement of expecting a baby is a really fun time in the lives of families. I love capturing fun and candid moments of this special time. Here are 10 great maternity portrait session poses that I like doing for all of my couples πŸ™‚

Standing Poses

One of the most classic standing maternity poses is getting a shot of just your baby bump. Most of the poses for maternity portraits involve touching your baby bump – in one way or another. And I like to start off all of my sessions with just some images of your baby bump.

Posing With Props

Incorporating props into your session is a really good way to make the session your own. I encourage couples to bring a couple of props that they would like to use for some of the images. Some of the most popular props are baby shoes, a sonogram, a baby onezie, or a banner with the babies name.

Sitting Poses

There are a lot of sitting poses that I like to do – but here are just a couple πŸ™‚ One thing that I recommend for maternity portraits is to wear clothes that you feel comfortable sitting, standing, walking, and sitting in. If your session is 60 minutes, we can even plan on a quick outfit change. Just make sure to mention this beforehand. Most locations have restrooms that you can change in – but others may take a little coordination πŸ˜‰

Walking Poses

Last – but not least, are some candid walking shots πŸ™‚ I like capturing images that feel natural and unposed and walking shots are a great way to accomplish this.

Hopefully these give you some ideas of poses we can do for your own maternity portrait session. If you are expecting an addition to the family, I would love to connect with you and take maternity portraits. The best way to reach out to me is through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
