3 Fun Family Portrait Ideas For Your Next Session

I believe that family portraits should be fun and candid. Family portraits are a time to celebrate the love you have for your family and it should not feel like a chore! Here are 3 fun family portrait ideas that you may want to incorporate into your next portrait session!

Have a Theme For The Session

One of the easiest ways to make your family portraits really fun is to have a theme to the session. Even though I have not seen Harry Potter, one of my clients came up with a really cool Harry Potter themed session. These types of things work really well for children. Most children do not enjoy taking pictures – so if you are able to create something fun and exciting for them to do, they will take great portraits!

Wear Sports Jersey

If you and your family have a favorite sports team, a really cool way to make family portraits fun is to wear sports jerseys. You can start the session off in your normal family portrait outfits and then switch to the jerseys at the end of the session.

Bring Some Props

Another good way to make family portraits fun is to incorporate a prop or two. I have had some clients make signs that have significance to their family or beach balls for beach themed shoots. If you have something that is a family joke or is a funny thing that you want to remember, make sure to bring it to the session. Just not too many props! I don’t want the ENTIRE session to be about the props 🙂
