Family Portraits at Silver Creek Country Club

When is the best time to take family portraits? Anytime a bunch of your family members are in the same place, at the same time. Lyda and her family were all getting together to celebrate their parents 38th wedding anniversary and vow renewal, were dressed up; and so this was a perfect opportunity for family portraits 🙂 Here are some of the images from their family portraits at Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose, CA.

A First Look Before Pictures

Before we started family portraits, Lyda’s parents had a “first look.” It was a really fun thing to capture because both of them were nervous and excited to see each other. Even though they have been married for over 38 years, it had a feeling of them being married for the first time!

How Much Time Is Needed For Family Portraits? 30 or 60 Minutes?

One of the most common questions I get is if 30 minutes is enough time for family portraits? And this is a tough one to answer… Lyda and her family spent 60 minutes and I think this was the perfect amount of time. 60 minute portrait sessions are the most typical sessions that I have. I recommend a 60 minute session if there are multiple families included in the session. For groups with multiple families, I will usually start with a group shot of everyone; and then break into smaller groups. If your family portraits just include a single family, 30 minutes may be enough time. If there are children that are between the ages of 2-4 years old, the length of the session can be a little tricky. Some children take a while to get “warmed up,” and others start of really great and then get burned out after 30 minutes! If you have children and are not sure how the session will go, I would recommend going with a 60 minute sessions. If we need to cut the session short, this is always possible; however, my schedule does not always permit extending the session longer.

If you and your family are planning on being together at the same place, at the same time – this is an excellent time for family portraits. I would love to connect with you. The best way to reach out to me is through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
