Senior Portraits In San Jose | Almaden Lake Park
Graduating high school is a really big accomplishment. An accomplishment that deserves nice portraits to be able to share with friends & family! Here are some of the images from Nyah’s senior portraits in San Jose (Almaden Lake Park). As well as three things to consider when scheduling senior portraits.
Scheduling The Session Well In Advance
First and foremost, you will want to schedule the session at least a month or more before graduation. Scheduling the session well in advance allows time for the Photographer to shoot and edit the images. And you will have plenty of time to use the images for party invitations. I have also found that scheduling the session on school breaks works really well. On spring break, for example, high school kids have more availability to take pictures during the week – when Photographers are not as busy.
Along these same lines, the best time of day for senior portraits is going to be in the evening. At this time of the day, the lighting is soft and very flattering for portraits. Photographer’s will also have more evening availability on weekdays. Some of the most popular time slots are going to be on the weekend in the evening.
Make Sure To Plan On A Few Outfits
For senior portraits, planning on at least two or three outfits is important. With multiple outfits, you can use the images for different purposes. Some of the images can be used for invitations. And others can be used to post on social media. With teenagers, this is probably what they want to use the images for the most!
I recommend starting the session with the most formal outfit first. This makes it easier to transition to a cap & gown as the second outfit (if they have one), and then a casual outfit to finish the session. If your child participates in sports or some other extracurricular activity, incorporating this into the session is also important.
Parents Are Welcome To Come To The Session
Last but not least, I recommend having one of the parents tag along for the session. This is great for many different reasons. Firstly, by having a parent there, they can give the Photographer a little guidance on the types of images they want. Most Photographers will have plenty of ideas on poses – but there may be specific shots that parents want. I have also found that bringing parents along for the session tends to make the children more comfortable. Not always 🙂 But most times a parent can get a genuine response out of their child better than a Photographer can.
