The Best Time To Take Newborn Portraits | Nanda
There are a lot of things to consider when scheduling newborn portraits. First and foremost, you’ll want to find a Photographer who captures newborn portraits in a style that fits your needs. The two common styles of newborn portraits are traditional newborn portraits or lifestyle newborn portraits. While Photographers who shoot traditionally posed newborn portraits, I prefer lifestyle newborn portraits 🙂 But now that we have this out of the way, lets talk about the best time to take newborn portraits. Below are two things to consider when scheduling your newborn portraits.
Generally, The First 3-7 Days Are Ideal
Generally speaking, the ideal time to take newborn portraits is going to be in the first 3-7 days after the baby arrives. At this time, the baby spends the majority of the day sleeping and eating. In the first week, they are easier to pose and to keep calm for the portraits. And this makes EVERYONE happy 🙂
Making sure that they have a full tummy, keeping the room as warm as possible, and playing quiet white noise music can also aid in keeping the baby relaxed. For newborn portraits, I typically spend about 2 hours and a good part of this is keeping the baby calm enough to pose them for pictures 🙂
Schedule The Portraits When You Are Feeling Up To It
Another thing to consider is how you are feeling after the baby arrives. Especially if this is your first child, it may take a few weeks to adjust to all of the changes. Scheduling the session when you are feeling your best is really important. With lifestyle newborn portraits, I like to include the entire family in the images. The great thing about lifestyle newborn portraits is that we primarily focus on capturing the interactions of you, the baby, and the rest of your family. While getting a handful of images of just the baby sleeping is ideal in the first week, getting pictures of you holding the baby in the nursery can take place anytime in the first month or even longer 😉
