Picking A Wedding Date – Three Tips

One of the most exciting moments of any relationship is the proposal! After you’ve said, “YES” and have shared the good news with all of your friends and family, it is time to find a wedding date! Planning your perfect wedding takes a lot of coordination. At the top of your list should be selecting a wedding date 😉 Here are three tips on picking a wedding date.

If Possible, Give Yourself At Least 9 Months To Plan

The one thing I can tell couples, who have never planned a wedding, is that it takes a lot of time! There are so many moving parts that you may have never thought of. From deciding your wedding party, establishing guest lists, and picking your wedding dress/suit, there is a ton of planning involved! Make sure to give yourself enough time – so that you are not stressed out with the process.

When I meet with a lot of couples, two weeks before their wedding, the one thing they tell me is that they just want to get the wedding done and over with. And this has a lot to do with the fact that there is non-stop planning to pull of a wedding. Giving yourself at least 9 months to plan will give you time to enjoy being engaged and to plan the actual wedding. When I was planning my wedding, it took 12 months 🙂

Pick A Date With Your Top Vendors In Mind

Another thing to really consider are your top vendors. This can be your top wedding venue or a Photographer you really want to work with, or even a DJ. Letting your top vendors know you are getting married and seeing which dates they have available is important. If you can coordinate a wedding date that each of your top vendors are available, this would be the best scenario. Depending on how busy vendors are, you will want to narrow down some dates as soon as you can.

Keep In Mind That June, July, And August Are BUSY Months For Weddings

Last, but not least – keep in mind that June, July, and August are the busiest months for weddings. If your wedding is planned for one of these months, there are a lot of things to keep in mind. For example, if you plan on scheduling your wedding on a “popular” date, some of your guests – or even people in your wedding party may not be available. The same goes for all of your other wedding vendors.

One way to avoid this is by scheduling your wedding on a Friday. Most weddings are scheduled on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. So a Friday wedding date will give you a better chance that everyone is available on your wedding date. If you want to ensure almost 100% certainty that vendors, guests, and people in your wedding party are available, scheduling your wedding on Thursday is also an option. Many wedding venues will give a substantial discount on these days 😉
