How To Prepare For Family Portraits With Kids

Three Tips on How To Prepare For Family Portraits With Kids

In my experience, many parents put off scheduling family portraits because they are not sure how their children will do. The great thing about this โ€“ is that it is easier than you may think! There are little things that you can do to help prepare them for the session. And doing these things will help make sure the session goes well. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for family portraits with kids.

Build Up The Excitement For The Session

One of the best things you can do as a parent is to build up excitement for the session. Let you children know that we are going to be going to the park to take pictures and to have fun. I recommend starting this a few days before the session. You will also want to make sure that your children see that you are excited. Chances are, if they see that you are excited โ€“ they will be as well.

Let The Children Pick A Fun Activity After The Session

Another tip that I have found works really well is to do something fun after the session. It can be playing on the playground or going to ice cream after the session. If your children are older, you can even let them pick what to do. In my experience, incentives work really well to motivate kids to take pictures ๐Ÿ™‚ You can make light of the special treat before and even during the session.

Along these same lines, I would also recommend bringing a sweet snack as an incentive during the session. It can be something as simple as fruit snacks. And we can only resort to this if we need to ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bring Along Something To Include In The Session

Lastly, I also recommend bringing something that your child really likes to the session. This can be many different things. It can be a toy or doll that they enjoy. Or it can be something like a tricycle or ball. We can incorporate these into the session. If your child likes the toy so much that they may not want to take any pictures without it, I would bring this out at least half way through the session. That way it is not in all of the images!

Hopefully these three tips on how to prepare for family portraits with kids has been helpful ๐Ÿ™‚ Remember, if you build excitement for the session, plan a fun activity for afterwards, and bring something to the session โ€“ the session will turn out great!
