Maternity Portrait Prop Ideas

Maternity Portrait Prop Ideas | My Two Favorite Props To Use

Maternity portraits are a really exciting thing for couples expecting a child! The session is typically scheduled in the final few weeks before the baby is due. And the anticipation of everything is a really great time in the lives of couples. I like to think of maternity portraits as a way to celebrate this time. If it is your first child, your family will go from two members – to three members. And if you have other children, they will be excited to be a big brother or sister πŸ™‚ With all of this being said, your maternity portrait session should be SPECIAL! One of the ways to really personalize your session is to include a couple of props. Including props does not take too much planning but can really enhance the images from your session. I also really loved the colors of their outfits and what to wear for maternity portraits is also something to consider πŸ™‚ For now, here are a couple of maternity portrait prop ideas that work really well πŸ™‚

Baby Shoes

One of the most common props for maternity portraits are baby shoes. There are a variety of different poses that you can use to incorporate them. I like getting close up shots of the shoes, your hands, and the baby bump. And I also like getting images where the baby shoes are in focus and you and your partner are in the background. A great thing about using baby shoes as props is that the props and your baby bump become the main subject in the image. In my experience, many people may be a little shy and getting a variety of images where the focus is not directly on you helps with this πŸ™‚

Frames Sonogram

Another really easy prop to use is a sonogram. If you are further along in your pregnancy, this is something that you will have on hand anyhow. The sonogram can be used on its own. Or you can purchase a small frame for it. There are a lot of different poses that we can use to incorporate the sonogram as well. Here are a few of the images from Jatin’s session πŸ™‚

If you are planning a maternity portrait session, including a couple of props can really make a difference. It helps to get a variety of different poses. And props can take a little bit of the focus off of you and your partner. Hopefully these are some useful maternity portrait prop ideas you can incorporate into your session πŸ™‚ Thanks!
