Fall is the busiest time of the year for family portraits. It is the time of the year when family is in the same place at the same time. And it is also the time of the year when people plan on sending out their annual Holiday cards 🙂 One of the most popular questions for fall portraits is, “what should I wear?” Well that’s a great question! Here are four fall family portrait outfit ideas – to get you started.

Christmas Colors – Red/Green

If you plan on using your images for Holiday cards, going with red and greens work really well. Red or even maroon look really nice and these have been the most popular colors with clients this Fall. An example of this is to have either the women or kids wearing one color and then the men or adults can wear another color like white. Maroon is also a color that goes really well for formal and casual outfits 🙂

Oranges and Yellows Match The Fall Foliage

A color scheme that also works really well are colors that match the fall foliage. Colors like yellows and oranges go really well at locations with trees that also have these colors in the background. I loved the outfits that Rebecca and her family chose for their session!

Jeans And White, Grey, Or Black

Jeans and simple colors like white, grey, and/or black is a classic and simple look for family portraits. Most people have plenty of outfits with these colors in their wardrobe and an extra trip to the store is not necessary 🙂

If In Doubt, Bring A Second Outfit To Quickly Change Into

Last but not least, I recommend bringing a second outfit that you can quickly change into. This can be a fun outfit like sports jerseys. Or it can be a different colored shirt altogether. If you’re not too sure which outfit will look the best for the look you are going for, I really recommend taking this approach 🙂
