The Best Time To Take Senior Portraits | Three Suggestions
With all of the activities and obligations of High School Seniors, it may be difficult to squeeze in senior portraits. In my experience, senior portraits are something that most high schoolers really enjoy 🙂 They can be used on social media, can be sent out to friends and family, and they can be used in invitations if you are planning a party. Here are some ideas on the best time to take senior portraits.
Try to Schedule The Session on a Weekday Instead of on the Weekend
One of the best tips I can give about scheduling is to schedule the session during the week. Weekday sessions have a lot of advantages to weekend sessions. If it is a busy time of the year for photography, weekdays are usually a lot easier to find a day and time with your Photographer. I also like scheduling senior portraits during the week because most of the parks or venues are a lot less busy. Isabelle’s session was taken on a weekday and there was almost no one at the park. This makes finding parking easy, there are less people in the background. And in my experience, it makes it more comfortable when less people are around. Especially if you are all dressed up and posing for pictures 🙂
Look To Schedule Them on a Half-Day From School
The best time to take senior portraits can also be on a half-day from school. Getting out of school early will make it easier to go to school, get prepared for the session, and have enough time to take the session. This is especially helpful if hair and make up is needed to be done for the session. One of the worst things you can do is to try to rush through getting ready for the session – so scheduling on a day where there is less to do is a good idea.
The Best Time of Day is in the Evening
Lastly, the best time of the day for any outdoor portraits is going to be in the evening. In the evening, the lighting is soft and flattering. And in most situations, the lighting is very vibrant and colorful. Often times, depending on the location of the session, you can get the bright colors of the sun setting coming through trees because the sun is low in the sky.
When it comes to scheduling, I also recommend not waiting until the last minute to schedule the session. Try to book the session at least a month in advance – to ensure that your Photographer has availability 🙂 Hopefully these tips on the best time to take senior portraits have been helpful.
