Lifestyle Newborn Portraits | Understanding My Style
Every Photographer’s style is different than the next, in some way or another. This is especially the case with newborn portraits. What I call “traditional newborn portraits” are what most clients are familiar with. And is actually opposite of how I shoot newborns… these portraits are taken at a studio that typically specialize in newborn portraits. And they can charge a PREMIUM for this style. The session usually takes 3 or 4 hours and the charge is often $1,000 or more. But they can create REALLY beautiful images 🙂 I shoot newborns in what I call “lifestyle newborn portraits.” And below are the three things I want to accomplish for these sessions 🙂
Very SIMPLY Posed Shots of Just The Baby
When posing shots of just the baby, I like to keep these VERY simple. No baskets. No hanging the baby upside down. Or in poses that need to be highly manipulated in Photoshop. Most of these photos are of the baby on their back, on their side, and on their tummy. If you have multiple outfits, we can take pictures of them with a few different outfits as well.
Pictures of You and Your Partner Holding The Baby
I also like to get pictures of you and your partner holding the baby on a white backdrop. The backdrop that I shoot newborn portraits on is large enough to fit 2-3 people and the baby.
Candid Moments In The Living Room or Bedroom
My favorite shots that I take for lifestyle newborn portraits are candid shots in the house. These can be taken in the living room, a bedroom, or a nursery. We will get shots of you and your partner holding the baby. One of my favorite things to photograph are you and your partner reading books to the baby 🙂
If you are expecting a baby, I would love to capture not only your maternity portraits – but newborn portraits as well. The best way to reach me is through the contact form on my website or a quick email ([email protected]) Thanks!
