3 Tips On Taking Family Pictures With Social Distancing In Mind

Covid-19 has shaken up almost everything in our daily lives. As things start to get back to normal โ€“ it is important to minimize the risk of catching and transmitting the virus. The good thing about photography and how I typically shoot family portraits, is that social distancing is pretty much built into the session. Here are three tips on how to take family pictures with social distancing in mind ๐Ÿ™‚

If You Are Not Feeling Well, It Is OK To Reschedule

One of the first things I recommend is to make sure to communicate with your Photographer โ€“ if you or a family member are not feeling well. Keep in mind that most sessions can be rescheduled. As much as possible, I recommend communicating this with your Photographer as soon as possible.

Adjusting How We Greet Each Other

Perhaps the most important consideration when taking family pictures with social distancing in mind is to adjust the way we greet each other. When working with clients, I typically will greet them with a handshake. Although we can still greet each other audibly, making physical contact with each other will need to be changed.

Maintaining 6 Feet or More From Each Other

Lastly, it is also important to maintain at least 6 feet from your Photographer โ€“ at all times during the session. The great thing about the way I shoot portraits is that I typically maintain a lot of distance from clients when taking portraits. In my experience, people feel more comfortable when there is a little distance between them and the Photographer. Not only does this make clients comfortable, it also incorporates social distancing.

Social distancing will also need to be taken into consideration when your Photographer gives instructions on posing. My favorite poses are those that are candid and natural โ€“ so explaining different poses from a distance is relatively easy. And there is no need to make physical contact when doing this ๐Ÿ™‚

Hopefully these tips on taking family pictures with social distancing in mind have been helpful. If you are looking to schedule a session, I would love to connect with you. Thanks!
