Maternity Portraits In San Ramon | Bollinger Canyon Waterfall
The Bollinger Canyon Waterfalls is a really beautiful place for maternity portraits in San Ramon. This is my second session here and I really love the look of this location. Here are some of my favorite portraits from the session. And three tips on how to take pictures in the afternoon.
The Best Time For Portraits Is In The Early Morning Or In The Evening
The best time to take outdoor portraits is definitely going to be in the early morning or in the evening. At these times of the day, the lighting is soft and much easier to work with. But sometimes scheduling a session at these times may not be possible. For example, if you have children who are on a specific schedule. Or if you have hair and make up scheduled before the session. We can still take portraits โ but the areas where we take the portraits may be limited.
In The Afternoon, Shade Is Your Best Friend
One of the things you will need for an afternoon session is open shade. While it might seem like the brighter the sun, the better โ this is not the case. When the sun is high in the sky, it can cause harsh lighting that is not flattering for portraits. Taking the pictures in the shade creates soft and flattering light.
Facing Away From The Sun
Another issue with scheduling a session in the afternoon is that the sun may not be in the most ideal place in the sky. I like to have clients facing away from the sun. And this is because it minimizes squinting and it also ensures that the lighting is softer as well. If there are not a lot of areas where there is shade, facing away from the sun is your next best bet ๐
So remember โ if possible try to schedule portraits in the early morning or in the evening. If this is not an option, the location should have a lot of shaded areas and backgrounds where your back will be facing the sun ๐
If you are expecting an addition to your family, I would love to connect and get some maternity portraits scheduled! Thanks!
