Is 30 Minutes Enough Time For Maternity Portraits?

Is 30 Minutes Enough Time For Maternity Portraits? | Pros and Cons of a 30 Minute Session

One of the most frequently asked questions for Photographers is, β€œIs 30 minutes enough time for maternity portraits?” In some cases, this is more than enough time. But there are other instances when a 60 minute session would be better. Here are a few pros and cons of 30 minute maternity portraits.

30 Minutes Is Great If You Do Not Plan On Changing Outfits

30 minutes is more than enough time to be able to get a lot of great images. One of the main things to consider is whether or not you plan on changing outfits. If you plan on multiple outfits, a 60 minute session is a better bet. But if you plan on just using one outfit, 30 minutes can be more than enough time. Typically, in this amount of time we will go to 3-4 different locations within the venue we shoot at.

Keep In Mind The Number of Images You Want From The Session

For 30 minute sessions, I guarantee at least 25 edited images. And for 60 minute sessions I guarantee at least 50. If you are OK with fewer poses and do not need more than 25 images, then a 30 minute session would definitely suit your needs.

The Age of Your Children Is Important

Another thing to consider is the age of your children. If you do not have children, then no need to worry about this πŸ™‚ But in my experience, children two years of age or younger may find it difficult to focus for longer than 30 minutes. This is if they are included in most of the poses. If you plan on only including the children in a handful of images, I recommend bringing someone along with you to help watch the children when they are not posing for pictures. Children that are around 5 years old or older can generally focus for longer periods of time. And they are at the age where bribing them with incentives works wonders! But every child is different than the next – so you can use your best judgment on if 30 or 60 minutes is best for your family πŸ˜‰
