Cake Smash Portraits In San Jose

Cake Smash Portraits In San Jose | Bernal Ranch Park

One of the most photo worthy life milestones is your child turning one year old. Any birthday is worth taking photos. But the first birthday is really important! Here are some of the cake smash portraits in San Jose, of Nicole and her family – taken at Bernal Ranch Park. As well as what to expect from a cake smash session.

Don’t Worry Too Much About The Location

The great thing about cake smash sessions is that they can be taken pretty much anywhere πŸ™‚ One of my favorite locations for cake smash portraits in San Jose is at Bernal Ranch Park. It has a rustic feel to it that many people like. But any park that has some shade would be perfectly fine. If you do not have a location in mind, your Photographer will have a few locations that they can recommend.

We Can Start The Session With Traditional Family Portraits

For cake smash sessions, I like to start off the session with some traditional family portraits. If the session is scheduled for 60 minutes, I like to spend the first half of the session taking family portraits. But if the session is just 30 minutes, we can take a few quick family pictures before the cake smash. With small children, this gets them comfortable and ready to take their cake smash portraits.

Make Sure To Bring A Change of Clothes And Wet Wipes

One of the most important things for cake smash sessions is to bring a change of clothes and wet wipes. The wet wipes may be the most important of the two – because kids can get pretty messy πŸ™‚ If you are looking for ideas on what to wear, there are a lot of great outfit ideas on Etsy.

If You Have More Than One Child, Bring A Small Treat For Them

Another thing to consider, if you have more than one child, is how to keep them both happy. I can speak for myself that when I was a child I would get so jealous when it was time to celebrate my sister’s birthday πŸ™‚ And my parents usually had to give me a small treat to keep me from loosing my mind! Arranging a small cupcake or some other treat is a great incentive to keep everyone happy and cooperative during the session.

Only A Couple of Small Props Are Necessary

For cake smash sessions, not too many props are needed. And keeping it simple is your best bet πŸ™‚ Pretty much all that is needed is a cake, a cake stand/box, and a number prop. If you want to be fancy, you can even get some balloons! If you plan on using props, I recommend getting these all prepared and ready – the day before the session. The last thing you want to do is to rush out the door, on the day of the session, and forget one of the props. And this is something that definitely happens from time-to-time.

If you are planning a cake smash session in San Jose, hopefully these tips have been useful. I would love to connect with you on some ideas; and the best way to do this is through a quick email or through the contact form on my website. Thanks!
