Five Simple Newborn Portrait Poses I Do At Every Session
When it comes to newborn portraits, I like to keep the poses and the session as simple as possible. Although posing babies hanging upside down, inside of pumpkins and then heavily altering the images in Photoshop is great โ this is not my style ๐ Rather than this, I like to focus on getting nice, simple images of you and the baby. Here are five simple newborn portrait poses I like to do at every session.
1. The Baby Lying Down On Their Side
If the baby is asleep at the start of the session, I like to get some simple poses of them alone. I do this on a white backdrop and use a large posing bean bag for these shots. For shots of just the baby, my favorite pose is of them lying down on their side. In my experience, this is the most comfortable pose for them. Whenever possible, we will also get them lying down on their back and on their tummy. If they are completely asleep, this makes posing them alone much easier ๐
2. Kissing The Baby
Another one of my favorite simple newborn portrait poses is of you kissing the baby. We can get these using the bean bag and the white backdrop.
3. Portraits In The Nursery
If your nursery is all set up, this is a great place to get some portraits of the baby. Simply holding the baby and admiring how beautiful they are is all it takes ๐
4. Over The Shoulder of The Baby In Your Arms
Another one of my go-to poses is getting some shots of the baby in your arms. I like shooting these over your shoulder โ so that only the baby is in focus.
5. A Picture of The Entire Family With The Baby
Last but not least, getting a shot of the entire family is important. If you have another smaller child, we can gauge how well they are doing and take it then. Often times, smaller children are just getting used to the baby and are not interested in participating. So timing is EVERYTHING when it comes to this!
Hopefully these five simple newborn portrait poses have been useful. If you are interested in scheduling your own session, I would love to connect ๐ Thanks!
