The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. And there are a couple of locations where you can capture it in the background as you take maternity portraits. One of them is Baker Beach and the other is Crissy Field. Here are some of the sunset maternity portraits at Crissy Field. As well as three reasons why Crissy Field is the best beach in San Francisco to take portraits.

Crissy Field Is Not As Crowded As Baker Beach

One of the main reasons why CF is my favorite beach in San Francisco is because it is not very crowded. During Covid-19, I have noticed that every location I have sessions at is at least 2 or 3 times busier than normal. However, Baker Beach is typically much busier than CF.

In my experience, people feel much more comfortable when less people are around. And from a photography standpoint, I like it because there are less people in the background of the images. Often times it is unavoidable and I will end up cleaning up the image during the editing process.

There Are Multiple Backgrounds For Portraits

Another great thing about CF is that there are a lot of different backgrounds to use during the session. As much as possible, I like to move around to at least 4 or 5 different places during a 60 minute session. At Baker Beach, there is only one background to use during the session.

In The Evening, The Sun Sets At The Perfect Angle

Last but certainly not least, in the evening the sun sets at the perfect angle. Whenever possible, I like to have the sun setting behind couples. This ensures that the sun is not in your eyes and it also creates soft lighting on your face. At CF, the sun sets right behind the Golden Gate Bridge and this is great to be able to have the bridge in the background 😉
