Simeon’s Urban Family Portraits in Downtown San Jose

One of the first couple of things to consider about your family portraits is the time and the location. Whenever possible, the best time to take outdoor portraits is going to be in the early morning or in the evening. At these times, the lighting is soft and flattering – which is GREAT for portraits. And then you want to pick a location that has the right “feel,” for your session 🙂 Simeon and his family wanted more of an urban location. So we decided on family portraits in downtown San Jose. Here are some of the fun pictures from their session!

Downtown San Jose Has Great Murals

One of the things I like about scheduling family portraits in downtown San Jose are the murals. The colors and the textures make for really fun and interesting images 🙂 Wearing outfits that are bright and colorful compliment the colors of the murals in the background.

The Lighting Is Great At Most Times of The Day

Perhaps the thing I like about scheduling family portraits in downtown San Jose is that the lighting is pretty good at most times of the day. This is because the large buildings block most of the sun and creates a lot of shade. And contrary to what most people may think, shade is MUCH better lighting than direct sunlight. Shade makes for soft and flattering lighting for your family portraits.

The Buildings Make For Cool Backgrounds As Well

Last but not least, another thing that I like about downtown San Jose is that the buildings make for good backgrounds. In order to get a good view of the buildings, we actually went to the top floor of one of the parking garages 🙂
