3 Tips On How To Capture Fun Family Portraits
Let’s face it, no one wants boring family portraits that have no personality! I believe that family portraits should be fun and candid. And here are three tips on how to capture fun family portraits 🙂
Look Forward To The Session, Plan Something Fun Afterwards
First and foremost, EVERYONE has to look forward to the session. For a lot of people, taking pictures may not be at the top of their to-do list. But by the time we get started, you’ll see just how easy it is 🙂 I like to capture fun and candid images and this is something that is really easy to do – if everyone comes with an open mind 🙂
But the fun doesn’t have to stop once the last picture is taken. I HIGHLY recommend planning something fun after the session. If you have kids, this can be something as simple as allowing them to play at the park after the end of the session. Or you could go out to lunch or dinner afterwards. For younger children, this can motivate them to have fun during the session 😉
Get Everyone Moving
As a Photographer, one of the things I like to do is to get people moving. When you are stationary, things can feel a little “stiff.” And so as much as possible I will look to capture you and your family in motion. This can be as simple as the classic walking shots. Or for teenagers and adults I like to play a hip bump game 🙂 If you schedule your session with me I will be sure to share this with you! The great thing about this is that it creates genuine smiles and you cannot really tell what is going on in the image 😉
Keep The Session Conversational
Another tip on how to capture fun family portraits is to keep the session conversational. This requires an open mind from you and your family. For example, I may ask a family member to tell me something about another family member. Or I ask someone a question. Getting everyone’s reaction creates fun images that most people prefer 🙂
Hopefully these tips on how to capture fun family portraits have given you an idea of how I like to take pictures 🙂 Just remember to plan something fun for after the session, and to be prepared to move and interact with your family! Thanks!
