Maternity Portraits At Sanborn Park

Sam’s Maternity Portraits At Sanborn Park

If you are looking for a great forest or redwood tree location for maternity portraits, Sanborn County Park is a REALLY great location. The great thing about Sanborn County Park is that portraits can be taken here at anytime of the day. Generally, the best time for outdoor portraits is going to be in the early morning or in the evening. But since the tall trees provide shade at all times of the day, maternity portraits can be taken anytime. Here are some of the Sam’s fun and candid maternity portraits at Sanborn Park. As well as three ways I like to capture creative maternity portraits.

It’s All About Candid Moments Between You And Your Partner

The main objective I have for EVERY maternity portrait session is to capture you and your partner as candid as possible. In my experience, people are most comfortable when they are focused on each other and not the camera. And there are several ways I like to do this. For example, I may ask you or your partner a question. Or I might have you describe something that you really love about your partner. Sometimes I get tears, and other times I get a genuine smile that you would NEVER get by the “1-2-3 CHEESE” technique that we are all familiar with 🙂

I believe that the best images are those that feel natural and candid. And this is the main focus of all of my sessions… the great thing about this is that you do not have to be a model or someone who has taken professional portraits before. ANYONE can take great pictures this way.

Capturing Reflections Whenever Possible

Reflections are hard to come by – but when they are available, they can create really beautiful images. Locations like Sanborn County Park are great for this because of the pond that is on site. Puddles, mirrors, or even cell phones are other opportunities to capture reflections.

Objects In Front Of The Camera Create Suspense

Last but not least, another way that I like to capture creative maternity portraits is by creating a sense of suspense. Placing objects in front of the camera makes it seam as if the viewer of the images is peeking in on an intimate moment. To capture these types of images, I like to shoot through trees and bushes or any other object that can be in front of the camera.

In my experience, this technique makes couples feel comfortable because it requires me to be a good distance away from them. Most people do not like a camera shoved in their face and will give natural reactions when the Photographer is far away 😉

Hopefully these examples of the maternity portraits at Sanborn Park have given you ideas for your own session 😉 Thanks!
