FAQ: What Is Headshot Retouching?
When it comes to headshots, one of the most important things to consider is how your Photographer edits their images. A GREAT way to understand this is by taking a look at their website. If you cannot see yourself in the types of images they take, chances are it may not be a good fit. So, what is retouching? Retouching an image is essentially making edits to an image β but with a little more attention to the small details. Here are four things I focus on when it comes to headshot retouching π
Itβs All About The Eyes!
Perhaps the most important area I focus on during the headshot retouching process is the eyes. When someone takes a look at your headshot, the first place they will look are your eyes. This is very similar to if you are having a conversation with someone in person. Your eyes should tell the story that you are confident and approachable.
Skin Softening and Blemish Removal
Another area that I always focus on when retouching headshots is the skin. Over the years, most people have earned a wrinkle or two β but it is important not to go overboard when retouching the skin π Bags under the eyes, wrinkles, and blemishes are all softened or removed. But nothing excessive. Your headshot should be an accurate representation of you at your best.
Oh Yeah, Itβs Also About The Hair π
Another important area to focus on is the hair. Some people have no hair, and some people have a lot of hair! Regardless, your hair should look itβs best in the final image. Any stray hairs can be retouched β so do not stress out about this! If your hair is a concern, taking indoor headshots may be your best bet π When taking headshots indoors, the wind is not a factor and so your hair will be as close to perfect in this scenario.
Letβs Shed Some of That Extra Weight
Last but certainly not least, I also like to shed some of the weight you may have gained over the years. Most people will show a little weight gain in their face β but not to worry π I can take off about 10-15 lbs and itβll look realistic π Just like with skin softening, it is important to not go overboard in this area. So I will make it look as natural as possible!
Hopefully this brief article on headshot retouching has been helpful π Thanks!
