How To Schedule Annual Family Portraits

Five Tips on How To Schedule Annual Family Portraits

Scheduling annual family portraits is something that all families should get in the habit of doing. It is a great way to celebrate your family as it grows changes over time. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, scheduling family portraits can be a challenge. Here are a handful of tips on how to schedule annual family portraits 😉

Schedule The Session Before A Milestone

One of the ways you can make scheduling annual family portraits a little easier is by scheduling them around a milestone. The milestone can be a family members birthday or graduation, for example. The session can be done to not only check off taking annual family portraits but the images can also be used to document a milestone at the same time. Also keep in mind that the images can be used to celebrate Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

Avoid Booking Around Popular Holidays

I recommend avoiding taking family portraits around popular holidays. If your session is scheduled at a park, there is a good chance that the park will be 2X busier than normal. This can mean limited parking, people walking around in the background, and limited places to take pictures.

Always Schedule Portraits When Family Comes Into Town

Another great time to take annual family portraits is when family comes into town. This is especially the case if you have not seen certain family members in a number of years. Typically, November is the busiest month of the year because of this. But you don’t have to wait until November to schedule portraits. Since November is the busiest time of the year for most Photographers, make sure to schedule your session well in advance. Or look to schedule the session prior to the Holidays altogether.

Early Mornings Work Well For Kids

When it comes to kids, they are typically at their best at the beginning of the day. Although the evening time is the best time to take outdoor portraits, mornings can also work well. In the early morning, the sun will be in a good spot to get great lighting. And your children will have plenty of energy and be alert for the session.

Plan Something Fun For After The Session

Family portraits are a great way to document your family but I believe that the session should also be a time where you can have fun spending time with each other. The session will be fun and candid but the fun does not have to stop at the end of the session. I recommend making plans after the session. It is a great way to incentivize kids and it also keeps the fun going 🙂

If you are planning family portraits, hopefully these tips on how to schedule annual family portraits have been helpful. Thanks!
