High School Graduation Portraits In Saratoga – 3 Tips to Capture Fun and Candid Portraits That Feel Unposed
Graduating High School is a BIG milestone! I recommend taking portraits to celebrate milestones such as graduating high school, a birthday, or an anniversary. While the portraits may not seem important at the time, they will be something that you look back on for years to come. When taking portraits, I believe that they should be fun, candid and feel unposed. Here are some examples of High School graduation portraits in Saratoga. As well as three tips to capture fun and candid portraits that feel unposed.
Bring A Parent, Sibling, or Friend to the Session
Perhaps the number one recommendation to get fun and candid images is to bring a parent, sibling, or friend to the session. I like to keep most of the poses conversational and having someone who knows you well really helps with this. For example, I may ask your sibling a question that is very likely to get a genuine smile from you. In my experience, the smile you strike from a candid moment is much better than the smile you would give if I told you to smile on command.
Take Pictures Moving Instead of Stationary
Another GREAT way to capture fun and candid images that feel unposed is be moving. In my experience, people feel more comfortable when they are moving than they do when taking pictures stationary. One of the most common ways to capture this is by getting walking shots. I might also have you do a spin. And if you are wearing a casual outfit, I may have you do a heel clap as well 🙂
Schedule The Session at a Location That is Not Too Busy
The location for your session is something that you should also consider. Locations where there are not too many people make for a more comfortable session, in my experience. Most people feel comfortable when there are not too many people around.
As a Photographer, I also tend to take pictures with a telephoto lens. The benefit of this is twofold. Firstly, images taken with a telephoto lens tend to have soft, out of focus backgrounds. And secondly, it requires me to be further away when taking the portraits. Having a little space between yourself and the Photographer also makes most people feel more comfortable than being up close with a giant camera pointed at your face!
Hopefully these examples of the High School graduation portraits in Saratoga have given you examples for your own session. Thanks!
