Fun & Candid Beach Engagement Portraits In Capitola
Engagement portraits are most people’s first opportunity to take professional portraits. With doing something for the first time typically comes a little nervousness. If you are recently engaged and have never taken professional portraits, here are some insights on how the session will take place. As well as some of the recent beach engagement portraits in Capitola of Laurel & Angelo 🙂
First, Consider The Location And The Timing
In terms of timing, the best time of the day for engagement portraits is right before the sun sets. If the session is scheduled for two hours, I recommend starting the session about two and a half hours before the sun sets. You can check the exact time that the sun sets by using a sunset calendar. By scheduling the session two and a half hours before the sun sets, this will give you a buffer just in case you run into traffic and start the session late. Your session should be fun, stress-free and relaxing. The last thing you want to worry about is running late.
There Will Be Plenty of Time For Two Outfits and Multiple Locations
Engagement portraits typically take 90 minutes to 2 hours. This is plenty of time to get a variety of different portraits. When taking engagement portraits, there is also enough time to go to two nearby locations. For the beach engagement portraits in Capitola of Laurel & Angelo, we took the first part of the session at a railroad track/forest location. And spent the second part of the session at the beach. When splitting up the session, I also recommend changing to a second outfit. Most couples will wear a casual outfit for their beach portraits and choose a more “dressy” outfit for the other location.
Most of The Poses Will Be Candid
I believe that the best pictures are fun and candid. When taking engagement portraits, I like to take the focus off of taking pictures and just capture you and your partners interactions. To achieve this, I like to ask questions and have you and your partner answer them. I also like to capture poses where you are moving rather than just stationary poses. Rather than having both of you stare right into the camera, I think the best images are when you are looking at each other candidly 😉
Hopefully these images of Laurel & Angelo’s engagement portraits in Capitola have given you a little more insight into how I approach engagement portraits. Thanks!
