Family Portraits In Saratoga

Fun And Candid Family Portraits in Saratoga โ€“ Sanborn County Park

I believe that family portraits should be fun, candid, and feel unposed. When you and your family are having fun, it really shows in the images. There are a lot of different places that you can take your portraits. But one of my favorite places for family portraits in Saratoga is Sanborn County Park. Here are four reasons why I love taking family portraits at Sanborn County Park.

Because Of The Trees, Shade The Lighting Is Great At Anytime Of The Day

As a Photographer, one of the biggest things I take into consideration is the lighting. Family portraits look their best when they are taken in soft, flattering lighting. This kind of light is typical when it is early in the morning, an hour before the sun sets, or at a location with plenty of open shade. Locations that have an abundance of trees (to block or diffuse the harsh sunlight) typically have great lighting. Since Sanborn County Park has a lot of trees that create shade, portraits can be taken at most times of the day and the lighting will be great ๐Ÿ™‚

The Diversity In Backgrounds For Your Family Portraits

Another reason why I love Sanborn County Park for family portraits in Saratoga is because of the backgrounds. When I take family portraits, I tend to move to several different backgrounds during the session. Sanborn County Park has trees, a large open grass area, a wooden platform, a pond, wood fences, rocks, and more!

Lots of Space And A Variety Of Posing Options

The third reason why I love Sanborn County Park as an option for family portraits in Saratoga is because there is a lot of space and a variety of posing options. In my experience, young children feel the most comfortable when there is a lot of space. This is why I typically do not recommend studio sessions for small children. No one likes a camera shoved in their face ๐Ÿ™‚ And having the ability to back up 10-20 feet from the family I am photographing makes everyone a little more comfortable. Along with having a lot of space, I love utilizing benches, stairs, trees, fences, the grass, etc. Having different posing options allows for creative and fun poses.

Sanborn County Park Is Less Crowded Than Most Parks

Last but not least, Sanborn County Park tends to be a lot less busy than other parks in the area. There is a $6 fee to park inside of the park and the park is large enough that there are not crowds in the areas where I tend to take pictures. If your session is scheduled during the week, the park is even less crowded at this time. In my experience, most people also prefer to take pictures when there are not a lot of onlookers.

If you are planning your next family portrait session, I would consider Sanborn County Park. Thanks!
