Three Pros and Cons of Outdoor Headshots
Headshots! Every professional business person should have one. Headshots can be taken indoors with a backdrop or outside. Here are my top three pros and cons of outdoor headshots.
The Background
Pros: Probably the biggest difference between indoor and outdoor headshots is the background. Outdoor portraits have the potential to have very dynamic and interesting backgrounds. A nice background can add a little more personality to a headshot.
Cons: The main focus of any headshot should be YOU! When someone looks at your headshot, they should look right at your eyes and your expression. If the background is distracting, this has the potential of taking away from the intended subject.
Pro Tip: Like I mentioned before, the main focus of a headshot is YOU. As much as possible, try not to wear anything that distracts from this. A solid colored shirt, with little or no patterns, is a great way to make sure that your eyes and expression are what people notice.
The Weather May Affect Your Hair
Cons: Another potential factor to consider is your hair. If it happens to be a little windy, it will make it harden to manage your hair. Fly away hairs can be edited out, but there may not bee much we can do if your hair is flying everywhere 🙂
Pro Tip: Bringing a mirror is a great way to make sure that your hair, makeup is exactly how you want them. Your final images will be edited to minimize/remove blemishes – so do not spend too much time worrying about this. I can take care of this on the back end!
Consistency For Large Groups
Pros: If you have a small group, outdoor headshots is a great option. If they can all be taken at the same location and on the same day – no problem 😉
Cons: If you have a large firm where you are looking for overall consistency in your headshots, indoor headshots may be the best option. This is especially the case if the headshots are spread out over multiple days or if you plan on adding additional headshots over time.
