Maternity Portraits in Mountain View – Steven Cotton Photography

Working With Kids on Maternity Portraits

If you are a parent of a toddler, you know how challenging doing simple tasks can be! I recently took maternity portraits in Mountain View. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of maternity portraits with kids.

BUILD EXCITEMENT: Before your maternity portraits, the best advice that I can give is to mention the session to them – about 5-7 days before the session. You can let them know that we are going to be going to the park to take pictures and it is going to be SO MUCH FUN! If they see that you are excited about the session – there is a good chance that they will be too. Practicing poses of them kissing the baby bump is also a great way to make sure that they are comfortable when the camera comes out 🙂

PLAN SOMETHING FUN AFTERWARDS: Another great idea, to get the best out of your child during the session, is to plan on something fun after the session is over. Many of the session locations have playgrounds that you can incentivize them with. Planning to go to their favorite restaurant or grabbing frozen yogurt is also another option.

BRING A HELPER: Since some of the poses will not include your child in them, it is sometimes very helpful to bring a friend or relative that can help occupy your little one. This keeps them engaged in the session and helps keep parents relaxed while getting shots of just the two of them.
