Family Photo Shoot At Vasona Park | Jill & Matt
The busiest time of year for a family photo shoot is in the months of October, November, and December. During these months, many people are planning to send out Holiday cards; and this is also a time of the year where families gather for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here are my four tips on what to do before the start of your family portraits – featuring Jill & Matt’s family photo shoot at Vasona Park.
Make Sure To Read Your Photography Contract
Most professional Photographers require their clients to submit a deposit and a photography contract before the start of the session. And there is a specific reason for this 🙂 Your photography contract will go over important policies that your Photographer operates their business off of. Some of the terms may include how many images you’ll receive, copyright information and permission on how to use the images, when the final payment is due, etc.
Plan on Arriving Early
One of the most important things you can do is to plan on arriving early to the session. If it is your first time at the location, you will want to give yourself enough time to park and meet at the designated meeting spot. Also keep in mind that there may be other sessions scheduled after yours. I typically schedule sessions 30 minutes apart – but during the Holiday’s I may schedule them just fifteen minutes apart. If you arrive late, we may not be able to get the full amount of time allocated for your session.
Hype Up The Session With Your Children
If your family portraits will include children, the best advice that I can give is to build up a sense of hype for the session. In the days leading up to the session, make sure to mention it to your children and let them know that you are excited to have fun in the park and take pictures. Chances are – if you are excited, they will also be excited for the session 😉
Plan on Something After The Session
Your session will last 30-60 minutes – but it does not have to stop there. Planning something after the session has concluded is a great way to spend more quality time with your family; and it can serve as an incentive to little ones. A great idea may be to go to lunch/dinner afterwards. You can also plan on letting little ones play at the park afterwards. If we schedule your family photo shoot at Vasona Park, they have a couple of great playgrounds, a steam engine train, and a carousel.
