Maternity Portraits in Monterey

Beautiful Maternity Portraits in Monterey

Monterey is one of the prettiest places in all of California. So I was excited to schedule Rachel’s maternity portraits in Monterey – starting in the downtown area and ending at the beach. One of the ways I evaluate a location for portraits is based off of the number of different places or backgrounds that we can take pictures at. Monterey is a great location because there are unlimited places you can move around and get pictures at. Here are three creative ways I captured images of Rachel’s maternity portraits in Monterey.

Getting Different Perspectives

One of the ways that I like to capture interesting images is by getting a different perspective. There is nothing wrong with an image where the subject is straight in front of the camera, at eye level – but changing the perspective is a great alternative. I like utilizing stairs or other items to shoot down on the subject; and occasionally, I’ll shoot up 🙂

Putting Elements In Front of The Camera

Another great way to capture interesting images is by putting natural elements in front of the camera. I look a little funny getting a lot of these images – because it sometimes requires me to be squatting inside of a bush or plants! Having elements in front of the camera gives off the feeling that I am peeking at an intimate moment between the couple. I really like these types of images because they feel natural and unposed.

Using The Sun

Perhaps my favorite way to create interesting and creative images is by getting the sun kicking into images. To be able to do this, the sun needs to be in a low enough height in the sky; and this usually occurs at sunset. For many reasons, this is why sunset is the best time to take outdoor portraits.
