Fun and Candid Happy Couple Portraits | Priti & Amir
One of the common phrases I hear from people – especially for family portraits – is, “we haven’t had professional portraits taken since our wedding.” This should not be an excuse for not having your portraits taken. Families change. They get bigger, people move away; and unexpected changes come up all the time. Happy couple portraits are a great way to get some fun images of you and your partner. Here are some of the images we captured of Priti and Amir at Bernal Ranch Park in South San Jose.
How To Pose For Photos
When it comes to posing for portraits, I try to keep things simple and easy. I think the best images are those that look and feel natural and unposed… the great thing about posing for portraits is that you do not have to have any previous experience posing for portraits! Even if you have taken portraits before, the way that I pose you for portraits may feel a little more natural than your previous portrait session 🙂 Some of the poses will include images where everyone is looking right at the camera – but I like to focus on capturing images where you are interacting with your partner. Since Priti & Amir had a couple of “furry babies,” we made sure to get a bunch of images where they were interacting with them.
Most people feel uncomfortable with a camera pointed at their face. You don’t know what you look like, and it can be a little awkward! As much as possible, I come up with ways that gets you and your partner interacting with each other. Happy couple portraits look the best where you are smiling, laughing, and having fun with each other. These are the types of images I like the most. Of course, if there are any cute poses that you really want to capture – do not be shy 🙂 Often times I will ask if there are any poses or ideas that we have not done yet. And some of the poses are actually fun and cute. I’ll have a bunch of different fun poses and ideas for the session – but I like to make sure to include your ideas into the session as well 🙂
Bring A Second Outfit
Bringing a second outfit is a great way to get a wide variety of images. One of your outfits can be a little more formal; and the second outfit can be more casual. It is almost as if you have two completely different sessions. If you do plan on scheduling an outfit change, make sure to mention this prior to the start of the session. Most venues have restrooms where you can quickly change – but making sure your Photographer knows this ahead of time can be helpful. We can coordinate the session so that we are near one of the restrooms, about halfway into the sesssion.
Another helpful tip, with regards to your outfits, is to bring a second pair of shoes – if you plan on wearing high heeled shoes. Depending on the location that the session is at, we may be walking a short distance or across grass. Doing this in a pair of flats may be a little easier than doing so in high heels 😉
