Lifestyle Newborn Pictures

What are “lifestyle newborn pictures?” That is a great question! But before we get into exactly what lifestyle newborn portraits are, I want to explain one key thing about newborn portraits 🙂 They can be really difficult to photograph 🙂 Photographers who specialize in newborn portraits are really talented! It takes quite a bit of skill and patience to be able to deliver consistently cute newborn portraits!

Candid Portraits vs Posed Portraits

The main difference between traditional and lifestyle newborn portraits is how they are captured. Lifestyle newborn portraits are captured candidly. And are less posed than traditional newborn portraits. Many people prefer these types of images because it documents the first moments with you and your baby. Lifestyle newborn portraits are less stressful and are easier to photograph 🙂

Lifestyle Newborn Pictures Take Less Time

Another major difference between traditional newborn portraits and lifestyle newborn portraits is the amount of time needed to capture the images. For lifestyle newborn sessions, I spend up to two hours. Images captured in a newborn portrait studio can take up to four or five hours! A lot of this time is spent keeping the baby calm, feeding the baby, getting them to fall back asleep, etc. If the baby is awake during the lifestyle newborn session, this is totally fine.

The Parents and Other Family Are Involved

A main difference between traditional and lifestyle newborn portraits is that all of the family can be involved in the session. Instead of focusing on just the baby – Mom, Dad, siblings, and grandparents can be included in a lot of the images. Lifestyle sessions are more about capturing these initial interactions. With less of the overly posed images of the baby alone 🙂
