3 Tips On How To Take A Professional Headshot
The way that you present yourself to potential clients or businesses is really important. Perhaps the best way to put your “best foot forward,” is to take a professional headshot. Here are three tips on how to do this.
1. Be Confident
Perhaps the most important piece of advice that I can give to you is to be confident. One of the worst things that you can say to your Photographer or to yourself is, “I am bad at taking pictures” – or something along these lines. If you come into the session believing that you are going to take a bad picture, you will probably do so. However, if you come into the session with a positive attitude and believing that you’re going to take an AWESOME picture, you will be more likely to do so. So be confident!
2. Don’t Worry About Your Outfit Too Much
The most important aspect of any headshot is the expression in the image. Your outfit and everything else is secondary. In the 2-3 seconds that someone views your headshot, they are not going to be focusing on your outfit or anything else in the image. Headshots are cropped really tight and so not too much of your outfit will be showing in the image… this is not to say that you should not dress professionally, but do not sweat it too much 🙂
3. SMILE
Last but not least, you need to smile! It is important to understand that your headshot is not a mug shot or an employee badge picture. Your headshot should give off a warm and inviting feel to anyone who sees it. I like to recommend giving the same expression as you would give when shaking someone’s hand and meeting them for the first time. Being confident and looking approachable is key to taking an excellent headshot.
