Maternity Portraits In San Francisco | Pooja
San Francisco is such a beautiful city for maternity portraits! I was glad that we were able to schedule Pooja’s session on a clear day – with a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Here are some of the fun and candid maternity portraits in San Francisco of Pooja and her family. And three tips on taking portraits at Baker Beach.
For Beach Sessions, Timing Is Everything
Perhaps the most important thing to consider, when taking portraits at the beach is the time of day that they are taken. A common misconception is that you want to take portraits when it is very sunny outside. In the afternoon, when the sun is the brightest, is probably the worst time of the day for portraits. While there may be a lot of light, the quality of the light is not flattering for portraits. The angle and height of the sun, in the afternoon, creates harsh lighting for portraits. The best lighting is going to be in the early morning or about an hour before the sun sets. At this time, the angle and direction of the sun is just right for portraits 😉 The lighting is soft and very flattering for portraits.
Chrissy Field Is Best Photographed In The Evening
Another thing to consider is where the position of the sun will be at the time of your portraits. If you want to have the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, you will want to take portraits – at Chrissy Field, in the evening. In the morning, the sun will be in your eyes and this can make portraits very difficult.
Plan On Arriving Early
Lastly, you will want to make sure to plan on arriving early. San Francisco is one of the busiest cities in the Bay Area. And if you are traveling from another city, especially in the evening, there will most likely be traffic. Since the sun will be setting at a very specific time, running late may cause the session to be cut short. After the sun sets, the amount of light to take portraits in will be substantially less. Planning on arriving at least 30 minutes before the start of the session will give you enough time to start on time time.
