Family Portrait Venues | Bernal Ranch Park

Finding a really GREAT location for family portraits can be difficult. The location that you choose should have a feel that you want to capture in your final images. Beach photo shoots have a very different feel to them than images taken at a park. And studio portraits have a different feel to them than a park setting. If you are looking for a very rustic feel, Bernal Ranch Park in San Jose is one of my favorite family portrait venues. You Can Take Portraits Here At Any Time Of The Day

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about photography locations is the quality of light. A common misconception is that photographs are best taken when it is the sunniest outside. Often times this is not the case. Afternoon sunlight tends to be very harsh. And most people want soft and flattering lights for their images. There are a lot of ways to accomplish this look but having open shade is your best bet. Bernal Ranch Park has a lot of open shade at pretty much any time of the day. So scheduling a session here in the afternoon does not create a lighting issue. This is one of the reasons I LOVE shooting sessions here 🙂

Rainy Days Are Not a Problem

Another great aspect of Bernal Ranch Park is that there is a small area where you can take portraits even if it is raining. The small house front is large enough for groups of four to five people. If it starts to rain in the middle of the session, we can take some portraits there 😉

There Is Plenty of Room To Shoot Kids

Last but not least, one of the aspects that I like the most about Bernal Ranch Park is that there is plenty of space. With children, having a little space for them to roam around in between pictures makes it a little easier. There are not too many small children that will be able to keep a good attitude in confined spaces. Having space where they can run around creates a lot of great photo opportunities.
