Sunset Family Portraits In San Francisco

Sunset Family Portraits In San Francisco | Olivia

The absolute best time to take portraits is in the evening. At this time of the day, the light is very soft, vibrant and flattering for portraits. And this is what you want for portraits 🙂 For Olivia’s portraits, we could not have picked a better time and location for her session. Crissy Field, is one of my favorite locations in San Fransico. Here are some of the fun sunset family portraits in San Francisco of Olivia and her family. As well as three things to keep in mind when scheduling portraits in San Francisco.

In The Evening, Crissy Field Can Be Cold And Windy

One thing to keep in mind is that San Francisco tends to run a little chilly. If you are coming from San Jose, the weather may be warm and sunny; and right when you get into San Francisco, the temperature drops 10-15 degrees! If you’re scheduling sessions in San Francisco, make sure to bring something warm. You can either wear warm clothes for the portraits or bring a jacket to wear in between posing 😉

Another thing you will want to keep in mind is the wind. It is really hard to predict, but being close to the water means that it is windy sometimes. It may be hard to keep your hair from flying everywhere – but bringing a brush can help a little.

Check The San Francisco Event Calendar

Crissy Field is a really popular location for events. Before scheduling your session, make sure that there is not a major event taking place. If there happens to be something scheduled, it may be difficult to take images without people in the background. This is especially the case on the weekends. If you’re available in the evening, on a week day, this is a great option. Crissy Field is substantially less crowded during the week 😉

Anticipate Traffic

Last but not least, you will also want to keep traffic in mind. Depending on the time of your session, there is a good chance there will be traffic getting to or leaving the session. Make sure to keep this in mind – especially for sunset family portraits. Typically, the best time for the session is going to be an hour before the sun sets. If the sun is setting at 8 PM, for example, scheduling the session at 7 PM is great. If you happen to be running late, the session may end up being cut short because there will be little to no light after the sun sets.
