The Best Family Portrait Location In Mountain View

The Best Family Portrait Location In Mountain View | Shoreline Lake Park

One of my favorite places to take family portraits is Shoreline Lake Park/Rengstorf House. Here are the top 4 reasons why Shoreline Lake Park is the best family portrait location in Mountain View. As well as some of the images that were taken there – from Sharon’s family portrait session.

There Are Plenty Of Places To Take Portraits

One of the most important aspects of a “good” location is how many places there are to take portraits. In my experience, most families prefer to take portraits with a variety of backgrounds. Shoreline Lake Park has everything you could want in a location. It has a lake, green grass, flowers and trees, a bridge, and a beautiful house front (Rengstorf House). When taking family portraits, I really like to move around from one spot to another to keep the energy up during the session.

The Lighting Is Great At Most Times Of The Day

From a Photographer’s perspective, the lighting at Shoreline Lake Park is pretty good at most times of the day. The best time for outdoor portraits is definitely going to be in the EARLY morning or in the evening. Outside of these two times, a location must also have a lot of areas with open shade. Shade provides nice, soft lighting – which is ideal for portraits. Photos taken in direct sunlight may be OK for a snapshot on your phone – but it is not ideal for professional portraits.

It Is Not Too Busy

Another reason why I really like Shoreline Lake Park is that it is not too busy. On the weekends, the park has a lot of people; however, the areas near the Rengstorf House are pretty much empty. I have come to find that most people prefer locations where there are not a lot of people present 🙂 It also helps to have less people in the background for portraits.

There Are Many Amenities At The Park

Last but not least, another great reason why Shoreline Lake Park is the best family portrait location in Mountain View are the amenities. One of the recommendations I make for all family portrait sessions is to plan something afterwards. When working with kids, it is a great incentive for good behavior. And it allows you and your family to spend more quality time together. There are two restaurants at the park and they serve great snacks, lunch/dinner options, and ice cream 🙂
