FAQ’s: “How Many Wedding Images Can I Expect?”
While it may be hard to differentiate one Wedding Photographer from the next, one of the ways is the amount of images they deliver. Some Wedding Photographers deliver just a couple hundred of just the VERY best images. And others may deliver over 1,000 images. Here is a brief explanation on the question, “how many wedding images can I expect?”
The Number Of Images Mostly Depends On The Total Amount Of Hours You Hire Your Photographer
Perhaps the most important factor in the amount of images you will receive is the amount of hours the Photographer will be taking pictures. On average, most weddings last around 8 hours. For all of my wedding packages, I guarantee at least 800 images. 99% of the time it is much more than this. Keep in mind that more intimate weddings may receive a little less than a larger wedding. But I tend to take a lot of images! For an 8 hour wedding, I would say that I deliver around 1,000 or more images 🙂 I remove any duplicate images, any images that are out of focus, or images where someone’s eyes are closed. If there is a good expression or something fun going on, I will edit and deliver the image! The worst feeling is getting your images back and wondering if there are images that were taken and not delivered.
If There Is A Second Shooter or Associate Photographer, You Can Expect More Images
Having a Second Shooter that is also covering the wedding will also increase the amount of images you will receive. A Second Shooter is someone that your Wedding Photographer brings with them to cover the wedding. Having another Photographer help shoot the wedding has a lot of GREAT benefits. Not only will you receive more images – but you’ll see many different perspectives. For example, as The Bride/Groom is walking down the aisle, one Photographer can capture it straight on while the other captures your partner’s reaction. All of my wedding photography packages include a Second Shooter.
Are All Of The Images Edited?
One of the most important thing to know is whether or not the images you receive will be edited. I would venture to say that nearly ALL professional Photographers would never deliver unedited images. Depending on the lighting and how the images are shot, the unedited images will look much different than the final images. For example, I prefer to never shoot wedding ceremonies using a flash. I find that it is distracting and takes away from the wedding. In many instances, the background may be much brighter than the light that the Bride/Groom is in. In this case, I may under expose the image – so that it can be properly adjusted when I edit the final image. If you were to look at these types of images, you may think that the Photographer has no clue on what they are doing 🙂 And always make sure that the images are going to be edited. I would steer clear of any company who does not deliver edited images.
Can I Make Prints, Post The Images Online… And Are The Images Watermarked???
Lastly, you will also want to understand the Photographers policy on making prints, posting the images online, etc. Some Photographers do not allow couples to make prints on their own. While other Wedding Photographers are more flexible. Along these same lines, the images you receive may be watermarked or sized down. These are all things you will want to discuss before booking anyone for your wedding. Your contract should detail all of these important details – so that there is no confusion 😉
