Outdoor Headshots In Morgan Hill | Lauren
When it comes to taking headshots, there are a few different options you have. You can take your headshots in a studio setting – with a solid colored background. The headshots can be more of a lifestyle headshot session – where more of the atmosphere and background are pictured. Or you can take the headshots at an outdoor location. Each type of headshot can play a different purpose and this is more of a personal preference. For Lauren’s headshots, we chose to take outdoor headshots in Morgan Hill. Here are some examples of the types of images we captured. As well as three tips when taking outdoor headshots.
Consider The Location
First and foremost, you’ll want to consider the location. For outdoor headshots, the location will need to have an area where there is open shade. Places like parks are generally good places for headshots – because of this. Shade provides nice soft lighting to put you in; and the background can be balanced out with lighting. Another thing to consider is that headshots are cropped pretty tight. There will be small areas on the sides and top of the images, where you can see the background – but you will take up the majority of the frame. In this sense, the background is secondary to the image. And the most important part of the image is you and your expression 😉
Prepare For The Possibility of Wind
One of the main differences between studio headshots and outdoor headshots is the possibility of wind. While stray hairs will be edited out of the final images, you’ll need your hair to cooperate in order for the headshots to be their best 🙂 I recommend bringing a mirror to be able to check your hair.
Double Check That Photos Are Allowed
Last but not least, you will want to make sure that photos are allowed at the location you choose. Most general places like parks will not require a photo permit; however, other locations do. Places like wineries, flower gardens, and other places where staff maintain the premises may require a permit to be purchased. Especially if there will be lighting set up for the headshots. Most Photographers will know which locations require permits – so make sure to discuss this prior to scheduling the session
