Engagement Portraits In Capitola | Veronica & Garren
I highly recommend engagement portraits for every couple who is planning a wedding. The portraits can be used for save the date invitations, decorating your wedding venue, and for posting on social media. Engagement portraits also give you the opportunity to work with your Wedding Photographer before your wedding day. Here are some of engagement portraits in Capitola that we captured of Veronica & Garren. As well as three tips to help you get the most out of your session 🙂
Try To Schedule Your Session In The Evening
One of the first tips I would give couples is to schedule your session in the evening. In the evening, the lighting is the best of the entire day. Many people refer to this as “golden hour” because the color of the light is very vibrant during this time of day. Depending on the location, you can get some really beautiful light shooting into the images – which I like to do as much as possible. Along with this, the lighting is also very soft and flattering for portraits in the evening. In the late morning and afternoon, the sun is high in the sky and causes there to be a lot of dark shadows and bright highlights. But in the evening the light is much softer. Whenever possible, try to schedule your session in the evening 😉
Keep The Session Fun And Candid
Another recommendation I would give engaged couples is to keep the session fun and candid. The best poses are ones that look natural rather than overly posed. There are many ways to do this – but I like to keep the focus on capturing you and your partner interacting with each other and not the camera. There are some poses where I will have both of you looking right at the camera. But the majority of the session will focus on getting you and your partner interacting with each other.
Walking shots are great for this. And I also like to ask couples questions or have you whisper something in your partners ear – for example. In my experience, candid and playful poses are what couples like the most.
Plan The Session Several Months In Advance
Last but not least, you will want to plan your engagement session several months in advance. This will ensure that you are able to schedule the session on a day and time that works best for your schedule. And it will also allow for the session to be rescheduled if the weather is not ideal or something comes up. It is also beneficial if you have a timeline that you want to have the images back by. Scheduling the session several months in advance of your wedding will allow you plenty of time to send out save the date invitations.
Hopefully Veronica & Garren’s engagement portraits in Capitola have given you some ideas for your own session. Just remember: try to schedule the session in the evening, keep the poses playful and candid, and plan the session several months in advance.
