FAQ: How many weeks should maternity portraits be taken at?
Maternity portraits are an exciting time for you and your family. If you have never been expecting a child or have never taken maternity portraits – you may be wondering, “how many weeks should maternity portraits be taken at? Here are a few ideas that have worked well for some of my past clients 🙂
You Can Take The Portraits As Soon As You Are “Showing”
In my experience, people “show” at different times in their pregnancy than others. Some people show really early and others end up showing very little as they approach their due dates. If you happen to be showing a little earlier than expected, I recommend trying to schedule your session around this time. As you get further along in your pregnancy, you will get tired and will not be able to pose as easy 🙂 Scheduling your session a little early will ensure that you have a lot of energy and that you feel comfortable during the session.
If You Are Unsure On Much How You Will Be Showing, Around 36 Weeks Is A Good Time
If it is the first time you are expecting a child, it may be difficult to predict at what time you will be showing. A good time, in general is around 36 weeks. At this time in your pregnancy, you are a few weeks away from being full term. If something comes up (weather or you are not feeling well), you still will have a little time to make up your session. I also recommend not waiting until the last minute to book your session. Depending on the time of the year, your Photographer may not have availability on short notice. Trying to schedule the session at least a month in advance will ensure you can get something scheduled 😉
If Possible, Plan Them Before Your Baby Shower
Lastly, try to plan your session before you have a baby shower. The images from the session can be used to decorate your baby shower and to post online. I typically deliver images in 5-7 business days after your session. So scheduling your session just a couple of weeks before your baby shower is ideal 🙂
