I believe that family portraits should be fun and candid! As well as three ways I like to keep things fun and lighthearted during family portraits.

I Like To Focus On Capturing Interactions Between Family Members

One of the main ways that I like to capture fun and candid family portraits is by focusing on the interactions between you and your family members. This is especially the case when everyone is in their teens or older. Working with small children is MUCH different than working with all adults. And I really enjoy being able to capture fun interactions with families who can answer funny questions or tell something funny about another family member 🙂

During the session, I will ask questions and get you to say fun or thoughtful things. If you enjoy being around your family, you’ll enjoy taking pictures this way!

I Also Like To Allow You To Be Yourself Rather Than Overly Posing You

Another important thing I like to do is to take the focus away from “posing.” Setting you up in a pose can seem stiff and unnatural. So when it comes to posing, I will arrange you and give you options on what to do with your hands. If I see anything that looks out of place, I will let you know 🙂

But more importantly, I am very flexible with including some of your own ideas. There may be a funny family picture that you want to recreate. And taking pictures in masks has been popular during the Covid-19 pandemic! If you have any poses or ideas that you would like to incorporate, make sure to let me know 😉

We Move Around And Chat A Lot During The Session

Last but not least, I like to keep things lighthearted during the session. We will move around from place-to-place and chat the entire time. I like to get to know you and your family and to take the focus away from “picture taking.”
